Lexus Hybrid Battery Coverage & Tech Protection
Lexus Hybrid Battery Coverage + Tech Protection
Butler Lexus of South Atlanta now offers Battery4Life High-Tech Battery Coverage, an optional vehicle service contract (VSC) available through our Finance & Insurance (F&I) department. It covers approved replacement of the high-voltage battery and the 12-volt battery in covered hybrid and electric vehicles. It also covers a long list of infotainment and electronic parts. Terms run up to 10 years or 120,000 miles.
Picture this. You start your Lexus on a Monday morning, and the center display stays black. No navigation, no radio, no backup camera view. Or the hybrid system throws a battery warning halfway through your commute on I-85. Modern Lexus vehicles are rolling computers, and when one of those systems fails, the repair bill can surprise you.
That is the gap this plan is built to fill. Here is how it works, what it covers, and what it leaves out, so you can decide if it fits how you drive and how long you plan to keep your Lexus.
What is Battery4Life High-Tech Battery Coverage?
Battery4Life High-Tech is a vehicle service contract designed for hybrids, electric vehicles, and today's tech-heavy cars. It protects two things: the batteries that power your vehicle, and the electronics you use every day.
A few important points up front:
• It is optional. Buying it is not required to purchase or finance a vehicle.
• It is a service contract, not an insurance policy and not a Lexus factory warranty. Battery4Life is an independent provider.
• Battery4Life has announced that the plan is approved for use with Lexus Financial Services, subject to program requirements, contract terms, and lender guidelines. Ask our F&I team how that applies to your purchase.
People often search for this type of protection as an "extended battery warranty." The name on your paperwork will be "service agreement," and we think you deserve to know the difference.
Why Hybrid and EV Battery Coverage Matters
Hybrid and electric Lexus models, like the RX hybrid, NX hybrid, ES hybrid, and the all-electric RZ, rely on two batteries that work together. The high-voltage battery helps move the vehicle. The familiar 12-volt battery runs the computers, lights, locks, and screens.
Battery4Life program materials estimate replacement costs this way:
• Traditional 12-volt battery: roughly $350 to $500
• EV high-voltage battery: roughly $5,000 to $15,000
Your factory coverage may protect you for several years. What happens after it ends? That is when many owners start thinking about the next repair. This plan is meant to support you during those later years of ownership, and it does not pay for parts your manufacturer's warranty already covers.
The screens matter too. Navigation, the instrument cluster, and the audio system are part of how you use your Lexus every day. When they fail, you feel it right away.
What the High-Tech Plan Covers
The plan lists its covered parts by name. Parts not listed are not covered, so this list is worth reading closely.
• Batteries: Approved replacement of the high-voltage battery and the 12-volt starter battery on covered EVs and hybrids
• Audio and infotainment: Radio and display units, GPS navigation system, rear audio and satellite radio equipment, speakers, power antenna
• Driver information: Instrument cluster, gauges, and information displays
• Convenience and access: Auto lock and unlock systems, remote start, and keyless entry transmitters and receivers (electrical failures only)
Battery replacement must be done at a licensed automotive repair facility with an appropriate replacement battery. Replacement parts may be new, remanufactured, or parts of like kind and quality.
Roadside Assistance Built Into the Plan
A dead battery rarely picks a convenient time. The plan adds roadside help for battery-related problems:
• Jump start: for battery failure, up to two roadside events per calendar year, up to $75 per event
• Towing (hybrid and electric vehicles): up to $1,000 to the nearest repair facility if your battery fails
• Rental car reimbursement (hybrid and electric vehicles): up to $50 per day for up to 10 days, up to $500, during an authorized battery repair
Roadside events must be pre-authorized. Costs above the plan limits are your responsibility, so save the roadside hotline number from your contract.
Plan Terms at a Glance
• Term length: Flexible terms up to 10 years or 120,000 miles
• Deductible: $25 per occurrence on combustion engine vehicles. The hybrid and EV deductible is printed on your Schedule Page.
• Backing: Old Republic Insurance, which Battery4Life materials list as A+ rated
• Transferable: Yes, once, to a private-party buyer (see below)
• Cancelable: Yes, subject to the cancellation terms in your contract
• Claims support: Dedicated claims hotline printed on your contract
What is Not Covered
A good contract is one you understand before you sign. The plan does not cover:
• Diagnostics, routine maintenance, or parts not listed in the contract
• Failures caused by accidents, theft, vandalism, flood, fire, or other outside events
• Abuse, neglect, racing, or improper installation or repair, including aftermarket add-ons
• Batteries that are only discharged, or damaged by overcharging or misuse
• Battery failures caused by the failure of another electrical component
• Vehicles used commercially, including rideshare, taxi, and delivery
• Damage to key fobs, or reprogramming of key fobs
• Anything your manufacturer's warranty, recall, or service bulletin already covers
• Conditions that existed before you bought the plan
The full list is in your agreement. Our F&I team will walk you through it.
How Claims Work
1. Bring your Lexus to a licensed repair facility. Our service department is a natural first stop.
2. Have the shop contact the plan administrator before work begins. Repairs that are not authorized in advance are not covered, except after-hours claims as your contract describes.
3. The administrator approves the repair, and the covered part is replaced.
4. You pay your deductible per occurrence.
Can You Transfer or Cancel It?
Yes to both, with rules.
Transfer. If you sell your vehicle privately, you can apply to transfer the plan to the new owner within 30 days of the sale. That requires a $50 transfer fee, a copy of the Schedule Page, and a signed statement of the sale details. It can be transferred once, and not to a dealer. Some buyers see transferable coverage as a plus when shopping for a used Lexus.
Cancel. Georgia terms apply to buyers here. Under the Georgia section of the sample contract, canceling within 30 days of the agreement's effective date earns a full refund of the purchase price, less any claims paid. After 30 days, a pro-rate refund applies, with a cancellation fee. Read your own contract for the exact figures.
Who Should Consider Battery Coverage?
This plan tends to make sense if you:
• Plan to keep your Lexus beyond the factory coverage period
• Drive a hybrid or EV and want protection for both batteries
• Rely on navigation, remote start, and keyless entry every day
• Put on highway miles and don't want a surprise repair bill
• Want a coverage feature that can help when it is time to sell
If you trade in every few years, you may not need it. That is a fair choice too.
